Station area advisory group (Saag) and Google dtsj project

Diridon Station is a major transit hub located at the western edge of Downtown San José. Multiple planning efforts affecting the station area are underway.

The Station Area Advisory Group’s (SAAG) primary purpose is to provide input to the City Administration on land use, development, transportation, and construction plans affecting the Diridon Station Area. The next scheduled meeting is May 22, 2019 at 6:30pm at San José City Hall in the Wing Committee Rooms (118-120).

SJDRA currently holds three seats on the SAAG, representing a diverse array of Downtown residents: A homeowner, a renter and a formerly homeless individual. 


Re-Envisioning the guadalupe River park

In partnership with the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, the City of San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department and the Santa Clara Valley Water District, SPUR has launched an effort to assemble key stakeholders to re-envision the Guadalupe River Park.

Construction in downtown

There is a considerable amount of construction going on in and around downtown. It can be difficult to keep up! SJDRA has put together a helpful list of the projects under construction, with links to where you can learn more.

Villas on the park

This is a 5-story, 84-unit project that provides housing and essential services to the homeless. The building will be comprised of 83 studios, social services and community spaces and an outdoor deck and garden. Its expected date of completion is October 2019.

The Graduate

The Graduate is a 17-floor 260 unit/1,039 bed off-campus, private student apartment complex located on a 1.5-acre site. It is located within one block of San Jose State University at 300 S. 2nd St. Its expected date of completion is June 2020.

Sparq Apartments

SparQ Apartments is a 105-unit complex located on S. 1st and Reed St. in the SoFA district. Its expected completion date is July 2019.

The James

The James is a 6 & 7 story podium building with subterranean parking located at 98 N. 1st St, across the street from St. James Park. The building has 190 apartment units, including studios, one- and two-bedroom floorplans. Its expected date of completion is April 2019.

188 West st. james

Formerly the “Silvery Towers,” 188 West St. James is a mixed-use complex of 640 condominium units and approximately 21,500 square feet of commercial space. Its expected date of completion is late 2019.

Modera at San Pedro Square

Modera at San Pedro Square is a mixed-use development featuring 201 studio, one- and two-bedroom luxury, residential apartment homes located at 28 N. Almaden Ave. Its expected date of completion is late 2020.

Park view towers

Park View Towers is a mixed-use complex built around and integrating the historic Church of Christian Scientist at St. James Park. The building will have 221 condominium units and approximately 24,732 square feet of commercial space. The earliest Park View Towers will be completed is late 2022.

greyhound project

This is an approved project for 708 residential condominium units and approximately 14,000 square feet of commercial space at 70 S. Almaden. Ground-breaking is anticipated in late 2019, and construction is anticipated for approximately 3 years.

477 S. market st

This project proposes a 6-story, 130-unit mixed-use apartment complex with 6000 square feet of ground floor retails space at the site of an existing single-story commercial building (currently occupied by Firestone Tires).

Garden Gate tower

This proposed 27-floor development at 600 S. 1st St. has two potential design options: 1) 290 traditional multi-family residential units with 4713 square feet of ground floor retail space; 2) 850 co-living units with 6000 square feet of ground floor retail.

Gateway Tower

This proposed 24-story, mixed-use 300-luxury-unit complex would be located at 470 S. Market St. in the SoFA neighborhood.

BART is coming to San Jose!

VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Extension project is entering its second phase, which will include a 5-mile-long, single-bore subway tunnel through Downtown San Jose. Phase II will include stops in Alum Rock, Downtown, Diridon Station and Santa Clara.

The next public meeting for this project will be on Saturday, May 11th from 10am-12pm in the Buchser Middle School Cafeteria (1111 Bellomy St., Santa Clara). Learn more and RSVP here.

High speed rail

The High Speed Rail Authority is currently planning a connection between Merced and San Jose. More information can be found here.


light tower project

Spearheaded by San Jose Light Tower Corporation (a nonprofit organization), advocates and residents of Downtown are working to create a bold, visionary and iconic landmark for the City of San Jose. The location for this monument will be at Arena Green in Downtown, adjacent to the SAP Center and the Diridon Station Area.

The SJLTC will host an international design competition to solicit ideas from around the world, selecting a small group of finalists who will further refine their proposals. The winning design will be selected from among that group of project ideas.

Levitt pavilion & st. james park

The Friends of Levitt San Jose has one mission: 50 free, family-friendly concerts each year in historic Saint James Park.

The Levitt Pavilion San Jose will join the community of Levitt Pavilions, which have brought music to forgotten and neglected public spaces around the country.

The Levitt Foundation has a national track record of partnering with cities and local organizations to transform outdoor spaces into welcoming destinations where free, live music brings people together and invigorates community life.
